Abstract

Most acute cardiac events occur without preceding symptoms and are caused by rupture of vulnerable plaque (thin cap fibroatheroma). Thus, noninvasive identification and modification of vulnerable plaque are of paramount important to reduce cardiac events. In this regard, coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography is an attractive non-invasive imaging tool for identification and evaluation of vulnerable plaque, despite the limited resolution and careful consideration required with the current CT technique. This review article discusses what we know and what remains unclear in the CT evaluation of vulnerable plaque.
